Wedding Invitations

Love Mix Wedding Invitations from Beast Pieces

Stamp Save the Date Invitations found on Love Our Way

Fabric Flower Invitations from Merriment Designs

Selecting our wedding invitations wasn't easy. I knew I wanted something graphic and after our DIY Save the Date (seen here) I knew it had to be different. After scouring the internet for what felt like months, I eventually realized that what I wanted did not exist and that I needed to design my own. I have absolutely NO experience designing invitations, but after playing around on the computer for a few hours our invitations were born.

I am happy to announce that the invitations I designed are on the way to the printer, and I spent all weekend making envelope liners to pull the whole look together. I can't show you them just yet because they aren't being sent out for a few more months so instead I have included a variety of sources I used for inspiration.

Chocolate Chocolate Cupcakes

These double chocolate cupcakes are not nearly as visually exciting as the angry birds, but they taste delicious. I finally perfected my chocolate cupcake and chocolate frosting recipes and this is the final result. What better way to start the week than with cupcakes!

Angry Birds

It's been a while since I last posted cupcakes, but what better way to get back to cupcakes than with Angry Birds. I made these cupcakes based on a co-workers request and I was shocked at the response. A bunch of my co-workers immediately started rearranging them to attack each other and blow up while others were asking me why big bird and elmo were so ANGRY. I guess the Angry Bird phenomenon hasn't fully taken over the world yet, but when it does I'll be ready with cupcakes!

Croquembouche

On the theme of wedding cakes (seen here), we also created a traditional Croquembouche often served at French weddings instead of wedding cake. This cream puff extravaganza is not only quite tasty, but also very fun to make. I especially liked making spun sugar despite the hot sugary mess that covered the kitchen!

Wedding Cakes

[The Back]

It's hard to believe I only have 1 month of Culinary School left, but I guess time really does fly when you are having fun! This week was my favorite week so far as we spent all 3 classes on Wedding Cakes and the final result is pictured above. I was inspired by my love of yellow to create the Daisy Cake and while I do not plan on having a 3 tier cake for my wedding I was quite pleased with my first wedding cake!

6 months until our wedding

With our wedding 6 short months away, I am overwhelmed by the list of things I still have to do. Rather than dwell on the negative I figured I better focus on the positive, so here is a few of my favorite engagement pictures (above) as well as a list of what I have accomplished in 5 months of wedding planning (below). I was nervous about taking engagement pictures but our photographer is AMAZING and the shoot turned out to be so much fun, we were also blessed with amazing weather and the location we chose perfectly captured our love of the outdoors.

Wedding Planning Accomplishments:
  • Booked a venue (it may be my parent's house but we still needed approval)
  • Met with a landscape architect and approved plans to redesign the backyard
  • Booked our photographer and had our engagement pictures taken (see above)
  • Chose a theme and color for the wedding
  • Rented lots and lots of stuff for our backyard wedding (tables, chairs, dance floor, restrooms, etc)
  • Went searching for wedding dresses and finally found one
  • Booked a Caterer who we know and LOVE!
  • Booked a Day of Coordinator to help calm the chaos on our big day
  • Convinced my brother to be our officiant - now I need to figure out how to make it legit
  • Found and booked the perfect hotel for guests to stay and enjoy the weekend with us!
  • Collected tons of milkglass and started collecting other vintage items for the wedding
  • Started researching flowers and finally booked our florist
  • Made and sent our DIY Save the Dates
  • Designed our invitations (to be released in a few more months)

I still have a long way to go as theknot.com loves to remind me with it's endless checklist of things to do at every moment, but I feel very lucky to be planning the wedding of my dreams to the man of my dreams with the help of all my family and friends!

Love is Sweet like Baked Goods...

I had this sign made for Ian over the holidays because he is always telling me I smell like baked goods when I get home from culinary school. Since I have a HUGE love of Cupcakes I thought it only fair to admit that I love Ian even more. When designing the sign I managed to squeeze in a nod to our Love is Sweet wedding theme. The sign turned out perfect and it currently resides in our kitchen, which actually makes a lot of sense. If you were going to make a custom sign what would it say?

Engagement Session Sneak Peak

I just received this sneak peak of our engagement session at Fort Cronkhite and Rodeo Beach. We had so much fun working with our photographer and I can't wait to see the rest of the photographs. The moment I saw this picture my heart melted and I was instantly reminded of how excited I am to marry this man!

Mousse Cakes

Raspberry Mousse cakes decorated with stencil ribbon sponge cake, glacage, and white chocolate. I had never seen or eaten anything like this, but they turned out fabulous and are more visually interesting than most regular mousse cakes.

Homemade with Love

Heart Peppermint Patty Centers

Chocolate Covered Peppermint Patty Hearts

Homemade Vanilla Marshmallows

Chocolate Cover Marshmallows

Homemade Candies

I have never been overly excited about Valentine's day, but this year I decided I should practice some of the techniques I've learned in class. We recently learned how to temper chocolate and what better way to say I love you than chocolate on Valentine's day. Both Ian and I have class tonight so I prepared these chocolates and a handmade card to surprise him with when we both get home later tonight. I hope you get to spend today and everyday with the person you LOVE!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Croissant, Danish and Puff Pastry...oh my

What better way to kick off the weekend than homemade croissants, danish, and puff pastry. I have never been more covered in flour than when working with laminated dough, but all the calories and flour are totally worth it when you bite into a warm, fresh chocolate croissant or a buttery cheese danish...yummy!!!

Vintage Posters

I absolutely love the look of these vintage posters found over at A Vintage Poster, the only problem is that they have 50 different posters to choose from and each comes with 25 color options; I can't even begin to narrow it down. I may end up designing a completely custom poster, which is also an option. I clearly have no reason for the animal prints, but I am totally in love with the dotted giraffe (no big surprise given my obsession with yellow and dots).

Sunshine

It may be the beginning of February, but the weather in San Francisco feels much more like summer. I bought these colorful flowers to brighten up our engagement photo shoot and I have to say they made a great addition. The combination of beautiful weather, bright flowers, and a brilliant photographer made our engagement shoot so fun! I can't wait to share the pictures.

Let's Float Away

Life has been a little stressful lately and in the midst of everything I gained a new obsession with hot air balloons. I love their vivid colors and the idea of just floating up, up and away. I am especially crazy about the engagement shoot Oh Joy covered above, probably because we are finally taking our engagement pictures this weekend. I don't expect them to turn out anything like these, but I do hope they reflect our life and love.
